Rock walls distribution and Holocene evolution in a mid-latitude mountain range (the Romanian Carpathians)

چکیده

Rock walls in high mountain areas are the expression of long–term slopes response (103–105 years) to tectonics, weathering and denudation a major source sediment hazard. Controls rock (RW) distribution post-glacial evolution rarely discussed literature at scale ranges. Using database 791 RW mapped Romanian Carpathians, we present their morphometry respect lithological classes, structural features topography relate exposure post–Younger Dryas (Holocene) slope failure chronology. Statistical analysis results show significance tectonic control on distribution, which prevails sedimentary units where it imposed predominance West North orientations led formation with dimensions up degree higher compared other lithologies. Morphometric data indicate that metamorphic igneous (linked great extent glacial valleys cirques headwalls) usually restricted highest sectors slopes, being characterized by reduced relative heights, asymmetrically distributed, common North-exposed extremely rare South. Based 38 in-situ produced 10Be surface ages obtained meter-sized boulders from Southern Eastern hypothesise formerly glaciated Carpathian were significantly shaped during Early Holocene (before 9 ka) failures events followed deglaciation intense permafrost degradation, also affected some units. We associate imprints frost significant North/South glaciers asymmetry, identified mid-latitude sites similar topographic constraints.

Detrital events and hydroclimate variability in the Romanian Carpathians during the mid-to-late Holocene

The Romanian Carpathians are located at the confluence of three major atmospheric pressure fields: the North Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the Siberian. Despite its importance for understanding past human impact and climate change, high-resolution palaeoenvironmental reconstructions of Holocene hydroclimate variability, and in particular records of extreme precipitation events in the area, ar...

On the Relationship between Holocene Geomorphic Evolution of Rivers and Prehistoric Settlements Distribution in the Songshan Mountain Region of China

This paper deals with the study of Holocene geomorphic evolution of rivers around Songshan Mountain in relation to human frequentation in Prehistoric periods. The investigations were performed by means of an integration of GIS data processing; field surveys and particle size analysis. In 8000–3000 aBP; in the Songshan Mountain Region, large-scale river sedimentation occurred. This increased the...

Effect of latitude and mountain height on the timberline (Betula pubescens ssp. czerpanovii) elevation along the central Scandinavian mountain range

Previously published isoline maps of Fennoscandian timberlines show that their highest elevations lie in the high mountain areas in central south Norway and from there the limits decrease in all directions. These maps are assumed to show differences in “climatic forest limits”, but the isoline patterns indicate that factors other than climate may be decisive in most of the areas. Possibly the e...
